Description
Magnolia House is a house dating from the late 18th century, which has been altered and extended in the mid to late 20th century. It is constructed of brick, timber-framing, and weatherboarding, featuring a brick ridge stack located behind the ridge. The building has a two-room parallel plan with single-storey ranges at the rear.
The exterior is two storeys high with a three-window range, presenting a double-fronted façade that includes a 20th-century door, 8/8-pane sashes on the ground floor, and 6/6-pane sashes on the first floor, all in exposed frames. The left-hand side has a ground-floor 8/8-pane sash and a small first-floor casement. The rear extensions from the mid-20th century do not have special interest.
Inside, there is a lobby that leads to an early 19th-century dogleg stair featuring stick balusters, curtails on each side, a decorative cast-iron newel, and a wreathed rail, with the stack positioned behind the stair. Historically, Magnolia House was originally partly connected with No. 143, and a cill and wall plate extend across the two properties.
