Description

The Foord Almshouses, built in 1927 by E Guy Dawber, feature a central cupola tempietto located in the courtyard of Nos 1-47. This structure is made of stone, wood, and copper, and has a circular and octagonal plan. It is a single storey with a dome, supported by paired Tuscan Doric columns at the corners. The entablature and frieze are designed to project forward above, adorned with attached cartouche coats of arms. The roof is a bell profile conical shape. A statue of Flora, created by Ernest Gilick, which was originally placed on the apex of the dome, is now situated in the forecourt of the Foord Almshouses Nos 48-64.
