Description
This is a terrace of four houses located on New Road Avenue in Chatham, built around 1830 and altered around 1990. The houses are made of stucco with stone dressings, featuring party wall stacks and a slate mansard roof from the late 20th century. The style is Late Georgian, with a double-depth plan.
Each house has three storeys, a basement, and an attic, arranged in a symmetrical two-window range. The outer doorways are framed by Doric porches with columns supporting an entablature that includes triglyphs and a blocking course. The doors have rectangular overlights with margin bars, while the ground-floor windows are round-arched. The first-floor windows have architraves and 6/6-pane sashes, and the second-floor windows feature 3/3-pane sashes. There are also round-arched dormers added in the late 20th century. The rear elevation is constructed of brick and has four storeys.
Inside, the houses have through entrance halls with stair flights that return over the entrances, featuring stick balusters, curtail and wreathed rails, 6-panel doors, and panelled shutters.
