Description
This figurehead, located approximately 50 metres south of the Royal Dockyard Church in Chatham, dates from around 1839. It is made of painted wood and depicts a half figure of the Marquis of Wellesley, who was the Governor General of India. The figurehead is mounted on a scrolled section of a ship's prow and was originally fitted to the HMS Wellesley, which was de-commissioned in 1839.
