Description

The Bell Mast is a bell mast located on Main Gate Road in Chatham Dockyard, dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century. It is made of wrought iron and features a mast constructed from riveted plates, topped with a bell that is covered by a metal dome. The dome has round arches on each side supported by curved brackets. At the base of the mast, there is an octagonal swept canopy, which is supported by slim octagonal iron columns. Historically, the bell was used to summon the workforce to the Dockyard.
