Description
The Guard House West and Store is a mid-19th century building located on the west side of Main Gate Road in Chatham Dockyard. It features a rendered exterior with timber columns and has a single-depth plan. The building is single storey and comprises a four-bay range, complete with a plinth, cornice, and parapet. The cornice is adorned with paired flat modillions and paired columns. The left-hand bays include outer doorways and a central window with three 3-pane sashes. The middle section projects and has a tripartite window with two 2-pane sashes, while the right-hand section contains a single window. On the left-hand return, there are two 6-pane windows with panels beneath. The rear of the building has unpainted brick walls between the columns, featuring sunken panels. The interior is plain and is currently used as a store. This building is part of a significant and cohesive group of Georgian dockyard structures.
