Description
The Cottage, now used as offices, dates from the early to mid-19th century and is located on Chatham Cottage Road within Chatham Dockyard. This building is constructed of brick and features brick lateral stacks and a hipped slate roof, reflecting a late Georgian style.
The exterior consists of three storeys and a basement, with a three-window range. It is double-fronted and has steps leading up to an open brick porch that includes a cornice and blocking course. The doorway has a recessed surround, an inner six-panel door, and round-arched side windows. There is a plat band and eaves cornice, with rubbed brick arches that are cambered over tripartite ground-floor four-over-four pane sashes, flat over first-floor six-over-six pane sashes, and second-floor three-over-six pane sashes. The building has one-window returns and a single-storey, two-window left-hand service block.
Inside, the space has been converted to offices and features a central dogleg stair. Additionally, there is an attached brick garden wall that extends approximately 100 meters around the garden to the west. The Cottage occupies a prominent position within the walls of the Georgian dockyard.
