Description
The Stables is a building from the early to mid-18th century located at Chatham Dockyard. It is constructed of English bond brick and features a slate roof with a single-depth plan. The structure has two storeys and a ten-window range. The gables are coped with kneelers at the ends of a series of two-window stables that have segmental-arched openings. At the time of review in March 1994, these openings were boarded, and each stable has a left-hand doorway with smaller hay loft openings above on the first floor. Although the interior has been altered, it retains the original roof structure, which was not seen. The Stables is adjacent to the garden walls associated with the Officers' Terrace and provided stabling for it, forming part of a complete naval dockyard.
