Description
Red House is a house located on Hundsbury Road in Strood. It is thought to date from the mid-18th century, likely the rear range, with the front range built in the early 19th century. The front range is constructed of red brick and features a gambrel tiled roof, while the rear range is rendered with a tiled roof that has two hips. There are two brick chimneystacks. The front range has two storeys and attics, with three windows, a modillion eaves cornice, and a cement plinth. It includes two dormers with casement windows and predominantly 16-pane sash windows, except for a central first-floor 12-pane sash. All windows have rubbed brick voussoirs and moulded architraves. The central doorcase features a six-panelled door, with the top four panels glazed, and is accompanied by a wooden porch. The rear range also has two storeys and four windows, mainly consisting of 8 or 12-pane cambered sashes. Interior features include plank doors, a cupboard with L-hinges, and a wooden fireplace with a later 19th-century cast iron firegrate.
