Description
The Ship Public House is a building that dates from the early to mid-17th century and has been altered in the 18th century and mid-20th century. Originally a house, it is now a public house. The structure is timber-framed and weatherboarded, featuring a central axial stack and a slate half-hipped mansard roof. The layout suggests it may have been a former lobby entry with a two-room parallel plan, and there is a rear extension from the 20th century.
The building stands two storeys high with an attic and has a window arrangement of two on the ground floor and one on the first floor. A continuous first-floor jetty is present, with a fascia over the short rafters. The right side has a pair of 19th-century half-glazed doors, while the ground floor features 20th-century casement windows and the first floor has plate-glass sashes in exposed frames. A large central gabled dormer includes three 6-pane casements and curved barge boards.
Inside, the left-hand room contains a large fireplace and features drop-chamfered lateral and axial beams, while the right-hand side has a 20th-century bar. The rear wall has been opened up to connect with the rear extension. The roof structure has not been observed.
