Description
The building is a barn located to the north of the Old Parsonage in Mottistone, dating from the late 18th century. It is constructed from coursed clunch with some ironstone and features a half-hipped thatched roof. The barn has central opposed entrances and ventilation slits at the rear. Inside, it has four bays and a complete queen-strut roof with staggered purlins. Notably, there is graffiti cut into the soft clunch, including two interesting representations of early 19th-century ships.
Originally serving as stabling, the barn has been converted into a garage. Attached to it is a stable range made of coursed stone rubble with a tiled roof. The right side retains its original stable door and features a small opening that leads to a former hayloft, complete with a wooden plank door on pintle hinges. Additionally, there is a cross-shaped iron tie, a central cart entrance, and a 20th-century garage entrance on the left side. The barn is included for its group value with the Old Parsonage.
