Description

Toll Cottage is a mid 19th century toll house located in Brighstone. It is constructed of stone rubble and features a slate roof with brick chimneystacks. The building has a roughly cruciform shape and is gable-ended to the road. The attic includes a blocked slit window. On the ground floor, there is a canted bay with leaded lights and a separate left side gable that has a two-centred arched doorcase with a plank door. The wings of the cottage have casements, with leaded lights on the left wing. This structure is noted for being an unaltered example of a toll house.
