Description
Middle Cottage and Tortola Cottage are a pair of cottages located on West Street in Brading. The Middle Cottage dates from the early 18th century, while Tortola Cottage is likely built slightly later. The cottages are constructed of stone rubble, which has been rendered, with brick dressings. They feature a thatched roof and have two square brick chimneystacks. The buildings are one storey high with attics and have a total of four windows. Tortola Cottage has two square dormers with eyebrow detailing, and its ground floor includes two casement windows set in old wooden pegged architraves, along with a modern 12-panelled door. Middle Cottage has three 3-light casements on the ground floor, with one window replacing a former doorcase. The left side of Middle Cottage features a modern plank door.
