Description
The stable block to the Hermitage, built around 1818, is now divided into flats. It is constructed of coursed stone rubble and features a hipped slate roof. An octagonal wooden cupola with a metal weather vane and a clock face, dated 1818 from a clockmaker in Clerkenwell, sits atop the building. The front has four casement windows, with round-headed windows on the ground floor, and there is a blocked cambered arch beneath the cupola. The rear elevation includes six casement windows arranged in a 6:4 pattern. This stable block was built by Michael Hoy, who also erected the Hoy Monument.
