Description
Westbourne House, located at 43 Birmingham Road in West Cowes, was built in 1752. The building features a construction of grey headers with red brick window dressings, a stringcourse cornice, and pilasters on either side of the front. It is two storeys high with attics, containing four windows and three modern dormers, although the glazing bars are missing. The roof is covered with corrugated iron sheeting, and the parapet has been replaced with modern brick. The porch is in a dilapidated state with a damaged cornice. A plaque on the building notes that Thomas Arnold, D.D., Headmaster of Rugby School from 1828 to 1842, was born here on 13 June 1795.
