Description

Jolliffe's is a purpose-built shoe shop constructed around 1917 in the Art Nouveau style, following the destruction of previous premises by fire. The building is made of brick, with the front elevation covered in glazed tiles of four different shades of green and features large glazed and stained glass windows. It stands three storeys tall and has eleven windows.

The parapet has a cement coping and three panels. The second floor boasts a large six-pane casement window that spans almost the entire width of the building, adorned with leaded lights and stained glass swags and floral decorations, with two central panes that open. Above this window is a wide toplight with the lettering "JOLLIFFE." There are three glazed tiled panels between the second and first floors.

On the first floor, there is a six-pane casement window with a round-headed arch, featuring spandrels with stained glass floral motifs. The two central panes open and have a toplight with a floral stained glass motif. The ground floor showcases an angled stained glass fascia with the words "JOLLIFFE EST.D. 1853," a full-width toplight with leaded light, and the initial "J" in a floral stained glass surround, along with an original curved shopfront supported by wooden pilasters. The interior includes stained glass panels and a contemporary staircase.
