Description

Grants Cottage is an 18th-century cottage located on Lynch Lane in Calbourne. It is an L-shaped building constructed primarily of coursed stone rubble with brick dressings to the ends. The cottage has a thatched roof and brick chimneystacks at each end. It features multi-light timber casement windows, and a later lean-to doorcase. A plaque commemorates Mr William H. Long, author of the Isle of Wight Dialect Dictionary and other works, and editor of the Oglander Memoirs, who was born in the house on October 6th, 1839.
