Description
Ivy House is a handsome 18th century house located on Sun Hill in West Cowes, set endwise to the street. The front elevation features alternating red brick and grey headers, topped with a slate roof. The building has three storeys and three windows, with yellow brick stringcourses and a modillion eaves cornice. A parapet of red brick and grey headers crowns the façade. The glazing bars are intact. Notably, the south end of the front has a bulging bow that contains a three-light window on each floor. The entrance features an unusual doorcase at the top of a sideways flight of steps, flanked by pilasters. There are slip windows on either side and a pediment above, supported by brackets that extend over the slip windows. The entrance also includes a semi-circular fanlight and a door with six moulded panels. This is considered one of the best 18th century houses in Cowes.
