Description
Brading Railway Station Signal Box is a signal box built in 1882 for the Isle of Wight Railway. It is constructed of red brick with a slate roof and has a rectangular two-storey design. The ground floor features brickwork with contrasting quoins and window surrounds, including two 4-pane casement windows with segmental heads. Above, there are 6-light sliding timber windows, and 4-light windows on the side elevations. The building has a hipped roof with scalloped valancing and an external wooden stair. Inside, it contains the original Stephens frame. This signal box is a well-preserved example of a locally designed structure built by a small railway company that remained independent until it was taken into the Southern Railway in 1923. It is part of the only remaining railway station complex on the Isle of Wight.
