Description
Victoria and Albert Cottages, located on Beatrice Avenue, were built in 1880 for retired royal servants by order of Queen Victoria. This symmetrical group of almshouses features one storey and attics, constructed from deep red brick with a tiled roof. The cottages have gables at different levels and pitches, with a steeply pitched gable-ended roof that includes some fishscale tiles. There are dormers and casement windows with leaded lights that have hexagonal panes. The porches are varied, with grouped gabled and pointed designs, while Nos 1 and 8 have separate porches. The overall appearance is picturesque.
