Description

The King's Head Public House is a 17th-century inn that was altered in the mid-19th century. It is constructed of stone faced in stucco with incised lines and features a tiled roof with end stuccoed stacks. The building has an L-shaped layout, with the northern part consisting of two storeys and attics, and three windows. There is a parapet with coping and a band above the first-floor windows. The central first-floor window has marginal glazing, while the others are double sashes with horns, all featuring hood moulding. On the ground floor, there is one double window and one triple window, both with horns and hood moulding. The central doorcase has a flat hood supported by brackets. Attached to the right is a 19th-century painted brick bar. The east front has two casement windows, and the south wing includes a former stable made of stone with red brick dressings, a tiled roof, and a wooden loft door. Inside, the right side bar features an early 17th-century stone fireplace with high stops and a wooden lintel, along with an early 18th-century moulded spine beam. The left side bar has a 17th-century four-centred arched stone fireplace with a plain chamfer and a rectangular aperture to the left, as well as a spine beam with two-inch chamfers and lamb's tongue stops.
