Description
The Hay Barn, located to the east of Bembridge Farmhouse, is a barn constructed in two phases. The southern part is likely from the 17th century or early 18th century and consists of five bays, while the northern part is a 19th-century extension with two bays. The barn is built from Isle of Wight stone rubble and features a corrugated asbestos roof. A brick quoined surround frames the cart entrance, and there are seven triangular stone ventilation slits. The 19th-century extension includes a plain cart entrance and a metal window in the gable end. At the time of the survey, the interior was filled with hay but appeared to have a roof supported by through purlins and queen struts without a ridge piece. There is also a late 19th-century brick stable attached to the west, although it is not considered of special interest.
