Description

Sidney Lodge is an early 19th century L-shaped building composed of three linked but distinct units. The western block is two storeys and rendered with slate hanging on the sides, topped with a low-pitched slate roof and projecting eaves. The central block is a single storey with an attic, built of painted brick and octagonal in plan, featuring a steep-pitched mansard slate roof supported by rustic wood columns. The eastern block, set at a right angle, is also of painted brick with a hipped and gabled slate roof.

The western block has two windows facing west, with two-light casements on the first floor and original French windows on the ground floor, above which sit narrow rectangular mezzanine windows. The south front features an attractive original French window with octagonal panes, and is accompanied by a verandah with rustic wood columns. The central, mansard-roofed section has a two-light casement dormer and a rectangular brick bay window with intact glazing bars. A recessed door is located to the side. The eastern block has two casement windows to the north, two large casement dormers with levelled corners that give the block its octagonal shape, and a three-light and a two-light casement window on the south front, set within a gable.
