Description

The Earl of Yarborough's Monument is a memorial erected in 1849 through public subscription in memory of Charles Anderson Pelman, the 1st Earl of Yarborough, who passed away in 1846. He was the founder and first commodore of the Royal Yacht Squadron at Cowes. The monument is an obelisk made of vermiculated granite, featuring a stepped lower section. It stands on a tall plinth made of ashlar stone, which has a stepped base. The Yarborough arms are carved on the north and south sides of the plinth.
