Description
Nos. 9 and 10 Union Street are two houses that have been converted into shops. They date from the 18th century, with a shop front added in the early 19th century. The buildings are constructed of flint with painted brick dressings and have a tiled roof. They are two storeys tall, with a dormer above a basement, and feature two windows each. The 19th-century shop front has been restored recently, with entrances to the shops framed at the center of the pair. Tuscan pilasters frame the entire front, and there is an entablature that spans both buildings. The first-floor windows are segmental-arched, complete with brick sills, jambs, and lintels. Brick quoin strips on the right wall of No. 9 and the left wall of No. 10 accentuate the pair and distinguish them from the later buildings in Union Street. A brick dentil cornice runs along the eaves, and there is one flat-arched dormer on each building. The interior has not been inspected.
