Description
Nos. 6, 7, and 8 Meeting House Lane are houses that have been converted into shops and flats, dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century. They are constructed of painted brick in Flemish bond, with the left side of No. 6 featuring stucco cement that imitates ashlar. Nos. 6 and 7 have gambrel roofs covered in slate, with metal-covered dormers, while No. 8 has a two-span roof also covered in slate.
These buildings are two storeys high, with Nos. 6 and 7 each having one dormer and one window, while No. 8 has a two-window range. The ground floor features 20th-century shop fronts. The first-floor windows are camber-arched with projecting sills; No. 7 retains original 8 x 8 sash windows. No. 8 has a brick dentil cornice, and all three buildings have shallow, guttered eaves and stacks at the party walls.
In the early 1980s, during an extension to the rear of the group, the rear gardens were cemented over, and a tunnel at the south-west corner of No. 6 was also cemented over. Several old flint walls were incorporated into this extension. These buildings are part of an important group with Nos. 1-5, 9-12, 22-32, 36-41, and 43-53 Meeting House Lane, which is located in the historic area of The Lanes in the Old Town.
