Description

Numbers 1-7 Montpelier Terrace consist of a row of terraced houses, with an attached wall and railings. The earliest section, numbers 1-5, dates to approximately the 1830s, while numbers 6 and 7 were constructed around 1850. Number 89 Montpelier Road is included in the listing. The houses are built of stucco, with slate roofs visible in places.

The houses are four storeys high over a half-basement, with dormers above. They have a three-window frontage. The basement and ground floor are rusticated, and steps lead to a flat-arched entrance with an overlight. All windows have flat arches. Giant Ionic pilasters are positioned between the houses on the first and second floors, although decorative details are lost where they meet number 89 Montpelier Road. A continuous bracketed balcony runs along the first floor, supported by cast-iron railings, but this is missing from number 89 Montpelier Road. There is a cornice, and a blocking course interrupted by dormers, except for numbers 6 and 7, which have bracketed eaves with disc patterns in the frieze, a feature also seen in houses within Montpelier Villas. Cast-iron railings are present to the steps of numbers 1-3 and 5-6. Low garden walls are present to all houses, and although largely altered, original brick-paved areas remain at number 5 and in part at number 89 Montpelier Road. The main facade of number 89 Montpelier Road is on Montpelier Road, and features a five-window range, with the two southernmost windows being blank. The primary facade of number 7 Montpelier Terrace faces Montpelier Villas, presenting a four-window range with a flat-arched entrance and porch supported by slim iron columns, a three-storey canted bay to the right of the entrance, blank southernmost windows, and a set-back wing to the north.

The interior of the properties has not been inspected.
