Description

Numbers 51 and 52 are a pair of terraced houses dating from around 1825. They are constructed of stucco, with roofs covered in asbestos tiles. The houses are three storeys high, with a basement and an added attic, and have a two-window front. All windows are flat-arched. A round-arched entrance with a projecting doorpiece, featuring pilasters and a keystone, is accessed by steps; there is a fanlight above the door. The ground floor and basement are decorated with banded rustication. A full-height segmental bay extends from the facade. A bracketed balcony with a cast-iron balustrade is located on the first floor. The first and second-floor windows are detailed with moulded architraves; those to the first floor include a cornice and wreathed frieze. The building has a cornice and balustraded parapet, and flat-arched dormers light the attic. Chimney stacks are built into the party walls. The original design sashes remain in the second floor of Number 51 and the first and second floors of Number 52; these are of dimensions 9x9 panes on the first floor, and 3x6 panes on the second floor. The interior was not inspected. Cast-iron railings, which are partly missing from Number 51, run along the front of the property, featuring gadrooned standards and halberd finials.
