Description

Numbers 48, 49 and 50, with their attached railings, are a group of terraced houses dating to approximately 1825. They are constructed of stucco, with the roofs hidden behind a parapet. Numbers 48 and 49 are three storeys over a basement with an attic, each featuring a single window range. Number 50 has been enlarged to four storeys and a two-window range. All windows are flat-arched. Steps lead to round-arched entrances; the entrance to Number 50 is framed by an architrave incorporating Doric pilasters and wreaths to the frieze. The entrance to Number 49 is similar but without the wreaths, featuring a panelled door of original design. The entrance to Number 48 retains only a floating cornice. All three houses have full-height segmental bays with balconies to the first floor. Numbers 49 and 50 have tripartite windows. Number 49 retains original sash windows: the first floor has a 6x9 pane centre with 4x6 sidelights, and the second floor has a 6x6 pane centre with 4x4 sidelights. Number 50 has 6x6 panes to the centre of the ground floor windows, with 4x4 sidelights, and the upper windows match the pattern of Number 49. Fragments of wreathed cornices are present above the second-floor windows on all three houses, a subsidiary cornice is above the third-floor window of Number 50, and flat-arched dormers are found on Numbers 48 and 49. The interior was not inspected during the listing process. Cast-iron railings with halberd finials and gadrooned standards flank the steps leading to all three houses.
