Description
These are a row of houses built around 1825 as part of the Brunswick estate in Hove. The ground floors were altered in the late 19th century and subsequently restored in the late 20th century. The houses are stucco-faced over brickwork and have concealed roofs behind a moulded parapet with rendered chimney stacks. They are arranged in a single-fronted terrace. Each house has three storeys over a basement, with two bays per house. The upper floors contain 12-pane sash windows. The ground floors have flat-roofed canted bays with sash windows that are either un-glazed or have a single vertical glazing bar. The doorways are square-headed, with pilaster doorcases, rectangular fanlights, and panelled doors, some with panelled reveals. The canted bay of number 6 has been rebuilt; numbers 8 and 10 have blind panels above the first-floor windows, with number 8 displaying a fire insurance mark. The front railings contribute to the group value of these modest dwellings.
