Description

This house, now divided into flats, was built around 1890 by J.T.Chapell. It is part of a terrace and has undergone alterations to the attic storey in the mid to late 20th century. The building is constructed of brick with terracotta bands and detailing, and has a steeply pitched tile roof with deep eaves and tall stacks. The plan is double-fronted, with four storeys plus an attic over a basement. The facade is three bays, then one, then two. A full-height canted bay is on the left side, rising through the eaves and topped with a rebuilt polygonal turret featuring an ogee cap. A large rectangular dormer is attached to the right. The third floor has sash windows set between pilasters that rise from a string course. The second floor has segmental-headed sash windows with a connecting entablature. A zinc canopy with a pierced pelmet shades the first-floor French casement windows. A wrought-iron balustrade is supported by shaped brackets on a balcony. Square-headed sash windows are present on the ground floor. The entrance is in the third bay on the right, with a terracotta Ionic pilaster doorcase, a console bracketed keystone over a segmental-headed opening, a half-glazed door, and a leaded fanlight.
