Description
This is a house, built around 1890, and later divided into flats. It was constructed by J.T.Chapell. The exterior is rendered over brick, with terracotta detailing. It has a steeply pitched tiled roof, deep overhanging eaves, and tall brick stacks. The building is double-fronted, with four stories plus an attic over a basement. The front has two bays on the left, one in the centre, and three bays on the right. A prominent canted bay window rises through the roof to form a balcony; this balcony features a segmental-headed tripartite window within a stepped gable that is topped with volutes and ball finials. A segmental-headed dormer window is located on the left side of the roof. Sash windows are present on the third floor between pilasters that rise from a string course. The second floor features segmental-headed sash windows with a linked entablature. A zinc canopy with a pierced pelmet overhangs the first-floor French casement windows. A wrought-iron balustrade, carried on shaped brackets, lines the balcony. The ground floor has square-headed sash windows. The third bay on the left has an Ionic pilaster doorcase of terracotta, surmounted by a tripartite fanlight, and double doors with diamond-pattern glazing. A flight of steps with cast-iron railings leads to the entrance.
