Description

The six tombs in the churchyard of the Church of St Margaret date from the early 18th century to the early 19th century and are made of stone.

The first tomb belongs to John Farncombe, who died in 1824, and is located approximately 10 meters from the south entrance to the chancel. It features a vase shape with inscription panels on the long sides.

The second tomb is for Thomas Beard, who died in 1728, and is situated about 10 meters southwest of the chancel. It has a handsome inscription set between panels.

There is a group of four tombs located about 12 meters due south of the south entrance to the chancel. This group includes Jane Gleare, who died in 1809, and Thomas Gleare, who died in 1812; their inscription is on an oval on the broad side, set between reeded piers. The third tomb in this group is for Charles Gleare, who died in 1736, and features a vase shape decorated with gadroons and egg-and-dart motifs. The fourth tomb is a plain table tomb of early date, located immediately to the north of Charles Gleare's tomb, with a moulded top and all inscriptions now lost.
