Description

Terraced houses located in Brighton, built between 1827 and 1829 by Amon Henry Wilds. The houses are stucco-faced, with slate roofs to numbers 1-2 and 7-8, a mix of asbestos slate and tiles on numbers 3-5, and asbestos slate to number 6.

The houses are three storeys high, plus a basement, and include dormers. They are arranged as two-window ranges, except for number 1, which is a one-window range, and number 8, a three-window range. While the original entrances were likely on the west front, they are now windows, and access is from the rear. Ground-floor windows are round-arched with architraves, although number 1 has a flat arch and number 8 lacks an architrave. The first-floor windows are flat-arched with architraves. Cast-iron balconies are found on the first floor of each house, except for number 6, where they are missing. The houses feature an entablature and an attic storey with flat-arched windows, though architraves are only visible on numbers 2 and 6. Pilasters are between the windows, most obviously on numbers 6 and 8. The parapet is balustraded on number 8. Stacks are located on the party walls.

Number 1 has a five-window return range, with a basement-level entrance flanked by fluted consoles supporting a broken pediment. The consoles extend upwards to the archivolt of a round-arched window above the entrance. Bracketed sills are present on the first-floor windows, with the centre window set back and pedimented. Late 19th-century stained glass is found in the basement, ground-floor, and first-floor windows to the right of the entrance. A two-storey extension is present at the rear. The interior of the houses has not been inspected.
