Description
Bond Street Cottages is a terraced house and shop with additions to the rear, dating from the early to mid-19th century, and possibly earlier. The building features a mix of stucco, brick, render, and weatherboarding, with a slate roof where visible.
The exterior consists of three parts, excluding the Sussex County Arts Club at the west end. The first part is stuccoed and has three storeys over a basement, with a 20th-century shop front facing Bond Street. It includes a two-storey canted bay on the upper floors, a parapet, and a 20th-century flat-arched entrance on the right side, accompanied by a single-storey segmental bay to the right that has sashes of original design.
The second part is a three-storey brick wing to the west, featuring a replacement entrance on the left, followed by two cambered-arched entrances, one of which has a panelled door of original design. There is also a cambered-arched window with sashes of original design and several cambered-arched windows on the upper floors. A single-storey rendered lean-to range is present on the west elevation, with two horizontal sliding sashes above.
The third part consists of a two-storey range with a brick ground floor and weatherboarding above, featuring one horizontal sliding sash on the first floor. There is an end stack on the second part and a ridge stack on the third part. The interior has not been inspected.
