Description

Popeswood Cottage is a small house dating from the mid-19th century, with a 20th-century extension at the rear. It is constructed of red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with a decorative diamond pattern of blue headers and what was formerly tuck pointing. The roof is covered with slate and oversails. The building has a rectangular plan, comprising four rooms with the later extension.

The two-storey north front is symmetrical, featuring three bays. It has sash windows set beneath shallow segmental arches. The first-floor windows have marginal glazing. A stone band runs along the first floor and brick pilasters are located at the corners and flanking the central entrance bay. A recessed brickwork detail, featuring a four-centred gauged brick arch, is present in the centre bay at the first floor; the entrance door below has six fielded panels within a plain surround and a fanlight set within an elliptical arch. The property has three brick chimneys with cornices and louvred terracotta pots. The interior of the cottage was not inspected.
