Description
Queen Elizabeth's Hunting Lodge is a former hunting lodge, now functioning as a museum. It dates from the early 16th century and has undergone significant restoration. The building features exposed timber framing with plaster infill and has a pitched tiled roof that extends to the eaves. It has an 'L' shaped plan with a staircase located in the south wing. The lodge stands three storeys high and consists of three by two bays, along with a two-bay stair wing. The windows are mainly mullioned and consist of two lights, with most of the windows and decorative features dating from the late 19th century. Inside, the lodge showcases an open queen post roof with windbraces, making it an early and rare example of this type of building.
