Description
The Church of St Peter and St Paul is a Grade II* listed building located in Chingford, built in 1844 by L Vulliamy, with eastern parts added in 1903 by Sir Arthur Blomfield. The church is constructed of gault brick with flint flushwork and features a low pitch slate roof. It is designed in the Decorated Perpendicular Gothic style, consisting of a 4-bay nave, an aisled chancel, and a clerestory that is present only in the chancel. The western tower has three stages, a parapet, pinnacles, and a spire, with flying buttresses at the corners. The nave is adorned with 2-light traceried windows and has flushwork between the windows and buttresses, along with a crenellated parapet and a south porch. The 3-bay aisled chancel includes 3-light Perpendicular windows and circular piers supporting the arcades. Inside, the church is believed to house a 12th-century font made of Purbeck marble and an early 18th-century pulpit.
