Sewer Ventilation Column at the junction of Weihurst Gardens and King's Lane

The sewage ventilation column, built around 1903, is located at the corner of Weihurst Gardens and King's Lane in Carshalton. It is part of a system designed by Baldwin Latham.

This column is made of cast iron and has a circular shape, standing approximately 9 meters high. It features two pipes connected by a prominent flanged joint at the midpoint. The plinth base has a moulded top and displays a maker's mark in relief that reads ‘W MACFARLANE & CO / GLASGOW’ along with another mark that says 'GLASGOW / SARACEN FOUNDRY'. At the top of the column, there is an astylar capital, above which sits a globe with four flared vents. The column is topped with a richly detailed finial that includes a weather vane shaped like an arrow with a spearhead at the apex.
