Description

The Mill Hill is a villa, with parts thought to originate from 1826, but largely remodelled in the mid-19th century. The exterior is stuccoed and has a slate roof. The building has an irregular design, two main storeys and a partial attic, with three prominent bays. The central bay features a four-panelled door recessed within a pointed arched doorway, leading to a tower with an octagonal turret rising to the attic. The turret is topped with a leaded, ogival-shaped dome and weathervane. Sash windows with plate glass and horns are present throughout. A first-floor window is located within a gabled dormer on the left-hand side, while the ground floor has a window in a canted bay. The right-hand side exhibits a gable with a kneeler and a large canted bay window to the ground floor, with a similar return visible to the right. A 20th-century conservatory has been added. Inside, the staircase hall contains a round-headed arch and a dogleg staircase with two slim, turned balusters to each tread, curved tread ends, and a newel post featuring a turned baluster and ball finial. Four-panelled doors are a characteristic feature, along with a dado rail. A bread oven is located in the cellar.
