Description

Nos 29 and 31 Holly Road are a pair of cottages dating from the early 18th century, as indicated on Rocque's map from 1741-5. They were heightened in the 19th century and altered in the 20th century. The cottages are primarily constructed of brown brick in a Flemish bond pattern with red brick headers, but the upper section is made of stock brick. The roof is now covered with 20th-century concrete pantiles and features a rendered chimney stack. The buildings are two storeys tall with attics and have two windows with a central blank space. The attic includes two 20th-century flat-roofed dormers. The ground and first floors have 20th-century mullioned and transomed casements with leaded lights set in original cambered surrounds. To the right, there is a cambered doorcase with a fanlight and two half-glazed doors. The side elevation features an attic in the gables and a blocked casement.

Inside, the ground floor has an early 19th-century fire surround and matchboard planking, likely from when the building functioned as an inn. The cellar contains an 18th-century round-headed arch, a wider staircase from the same period with some plank panelling, and a three-plank door. The roof includes purlins, a ridge piece, diagonal braces, and some carpenter's marks.
