Description
Barclays Bank is an early 20th-century stone building that stands three stories tall on a semi-circular corner site on York Street. The design features a composition of thirteen bays, with the central three bays and the outer two bays at each end being slightly advanced. The upper storeys have rusticated window surrounds and pediments above the first-floor windows. The ground storey is also rusticated, featuring semi-circular headed windows with a frieze above. There is a band-course between the first and second floors, and a central three-bay pediment that includes a clock. The building is topped with a modillion cornice and a balustraded parapet that runs the length of the structure. The entrance is marked by a Doric porch with paired columns. This building plays a very important role in the townscape of Twickenham centre.
