Description
Montrose House is a late 17th-century building located on Petersham Road. It features a three-storey central block that is five bays wide, with a layout of one bay, three bays, and one bay, flanked by two-storey, one-bay wings. The exterior is constructed of brown brick with red dressings, and there is a stuccoed band at the second floor level, decorated with a wreath below each window. The front of the house has a parapet, which is raised over the central bays that are slightly set forward. Both the main block and the wings have brick quoins. The main block includes segmental arched windows with brick aprons and stucco keys on the ground and first floors, while the wings have round-arched ground floor windows with rusticated brick surrounds. A central prostyle porch with fluted Roman Doric columns is approached by a double flight of steps with wrought-iron railings. Beyond the wings, there are additional later ranges of outbuildings. The garden front features a carved stucco band similar to that on the road front and has a projecting ground floor with a balcony above. The interior has not been seen.
