Description
The Mortlake and East Sheen War Memorial is a tall granite obelisk that rests on a two-step plinth. The upper step of the plinth features a relief carving of a laurel wreath on both the front and back faces. The front face also has the inscription: "THEIR NAME / LIVETH FOR / EVERMORE." The right face is inscribed with: "IN MEMORY OF / THE MEN OF / MORTLAKE / AND EAST SHEEN / WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES," while the left face lists the wars: "WARS / 1914-18 / 1939-45." On the lower step of the plinth, the right face reads: "THE ROLL OF HONOUR / LIES BENEATH THE SWORD." The memorial is situated in a circular area of paving, which includes an incised sword carving directly beneath the inscription.
