Description
The Gate House at The Old Palace is a Grade I listed building that incorporates the remains of Henry VII's Palace, dating back to 1501. The current structure consists of two houses primarily from the 18th and 19th centuries, built in dark red brick with battlements. It features an octagonal turret and projecting bays at both ends and in the center. The early 19th-century windows are square-headed and designed in the Tudor Gothic style. To the right of the building is the original Palace Gateway, which now provides access to Old Palace Yard. Above the arch of the gateway is a stone porch that displays the recently restored arms of Henry VII, with a room above that is part of The Gatehouse. The Old Palace is accessed from Richmond Green, while The Gatehouse can be entered through a canopied door just inside the Palace archway. The interiors have not been seen.
