Description

Old Palace Place originates from the late 16th to 17th centuries, with the exterior largely dating to around 1700. The building is constructed of brown brick with red brick dressings, and features a modillion eaves cornice that continues with the adjacent Oak House. Brick bands delineate the floors. It is three storeys high and seven windows wide. A pedimented doorcase is supported by carved consoles. Inside, a notable staircase is reminiscent of the designs of Inigo Jones, alongside original panelling. A Tudor-style chimney piece is present on the ground floor, and evidence of earlier half-timbering can be seen above. A report from C.L. May in 1944 documented these features.
