Description
No. 21 Calonne Road is a detached house built in 1909, designed by R Baillie Scott. The building features a combination of brick and some timber framing with plaster infill in the central bay, topped by a steeply pitched tiled roof. It has two storeys plus a roof storey and showcases an irregular design in the Arts and Crafts style.
The garden front consists of three main bays, with the outer bays projecting beneath gabled roofs. There are further hipped projections over a paved terrace on both the right and left sides. The right-hand gabled wing has three-light windows, while the left has four-light windows, both featuring timber mullions. The central bay is recessed and includes exposed timber framing, with five-light windows on both the ground and first floors. The centre three lights of the first-floor window rise to create a flat-topped half dormer. Additionally, there is a five-light corniced dormer window at the centre of the roof. Tall chimneys are positioned on both the right and left sides of the house.
Inside, the house remains largely intact, featuring an open well staircase, dado panelling on the ground floor, and wrought iron door and window fittings.
