Description
The Apostolic Nunciature is a detached house built in 1897 and designed by C W Stephens. It is constructed from Portland stone and features a steeply pitched green slate roof that extends to a parapet. The building has two storeys plus dormers and consists of 11 bays arranged in a rhythm of 3-1-3-1-3. The entrance is located in the fourth bay from the right, set within a projecting porch supported by square fluted Doric pilasters. The outer triplet bays project slightly and each has a two-storey bay window topped with a gable. The central five bays are also gabled. The windows are square-headed with decorated lintels and are primarily sash windows with plate glass. There are string courses between the storeys and above the first floor, along with a modillion cornice above the centre five bays. The building features traceried panels and tall chimneys, and there is an attached one-storey, one-bay wing to the right.
