Description

The Old Windmill is a substantial brick windmill dating from 1817 to 1818, with alterations made in 1893. Originally a hollow post mill, the post was removed in 1893 and replaced with a conical tower, which was heightened at that time. The windmill features an eight-sided tower that flares towards its base, supporting a weatherboarded body with a pointed arched top, and originally had four sails. The brickwork of the round house was painted and the structure faced in brick during the 1860s, when it was converted into cottages. The windmill retains its machinery, which was restored in the late 20th century.
