Description
Falconhurst is a substantial detached house dated 1902 and designed by E J May. It is built of brown brick with red dressings and has a pantiled roof extending to the eaves. The house is executed in an Arts and Crafts style. It is two storeys high and six windows wide, with an irregular composition and rusticated quoins. The recessed entrance, located below the third window from the right, is sheltered by a segmental hooded doorway featuring Portland stone quoins and corbels, and contains a panelled door with a circular window. Large canted bay windows flank the entrance on both sides; these have timber mullions and transoms, with leaded lights and painted decorative lead friezes above each. A segmental arched window is located in the left bay of the ground floor. The first-floor windows are square headed with sashes and glazing bars. A coved eaves cornice runs above the first floor. Three large dormers break through the eaves, each having roughcast pargetted gables and triple windows, with the centre light of each being segmental arched and displaying dentil decoration. Lead gutter boxes are dated. A tall chimney is present.
